Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

conduct conveyor operations on at least two occasions, including:

conducting prestart, startup, shutdown and secure equipment procedures

monitoring conveyor performance

minimising spillage while operating conveyor

identifying and removing contaminants

conducting minor maintenance and adjustment requirements

conducting housekeeping activities.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply required documentation, policies and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant

work effectively with others to conduct conveyor operations that meet required outcomes, including:

organising work activities to meet task requirements

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

complying with reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work requirements.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to conduct conveyor operations, including those for:

clearing blocked chutes and excessive spills

moving parts and rotating equipment

safety devices, including:

emergency stops

audible and visual alarms

conveyor lanyards

isolation of plant and equipment

communication methods

prestart check techniques, including those for:

computer systems

conveyor belt and components

display instrumentation and gauges

greasing components

visual and audio warning devices and lights

emergency stop systems

guarding

conveyor systems, indicators and related equipment configurations, including computer indicators

conveyor and conveyor system equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations, including:

start-up, shutdown and secure equipment procedures

operator maintenance procedures, including fault finding and scheduled maintenance tasks

shutdown techniques, including:

rectifying and/or reporting faults and defects, conditions and outstanding faults

restoring conveyor to condition for next start-up

completing logs and reporting requirements

principles and techniques for:

monitoring conveyor performance

minimising spillage while operating conveyor

identifying and removing contaminants

site environmental issues, ground conditions and constraints

principles and techniques for identifying and responding to relevant hazards and emergencies

site requirements for housekeeping, completing maintenance records and reporting requirements

basic techniques for communicating job activities with others.
